Item Description for Sale: 15 fresh Nymphaea thermarum SEEDS + sowing kit (transparent box + starting soil) .The last picture show the mother plant that is not for sale. August 2025 harvest.
Beware: The success for cultivating this waterlily lies in the water and soil that must be alcaline! If you don’t have access to the proper substrate, you can order about 2 liter for 10€ in the shop, more than enough for one plant. It’s a mix of calcareous clay and forest soil.
Sowing: Open the box with soil and fil with water until rehydrated and raise the level to 1-2cm above the soil level. Sow the seeds and keep the bow in a well lit place at 25-30°C. Always keep 1-2cm of water above the soil. Avoid direct sun to avoid boiling the seeds. Germination should start in 1-2 weeks.
Habitat and Description: The smallest waterlily in the world! It used to be considered extinct in the wild until it was recently rediscovered! The original locality is a hot spring and one peculiar feature of that waterlily is that it grew on the banks, not into the water. It can be cultivated emersed without problems and that’s how it grows best. This species can only be propagated through seeds.
It used to be considered rare but it’s now found in many collections all over the world, notably because it’s very easy to grow and very prolific.
Cultivation: This species needs two things: an alcaline and mineral environment, and a lot of sun (it doesn’t grow well under most artificial lights). If you can get calcareous clay, it’s ideal. If your tap water is too soft you can add some spring water with high mineral content but if you have the right soil, water quality shouldn’t be a problem. Add some fertilizer like osmocote regularly for an abundant flower production. Ideal temperature 22-30°C
Hardiness: Tropical
