Item Description:
3x bulbils of Barclaya longifolia from the Khammouane province in Laos. You will receive bulbs similar to those shown in the photos. I inspect all bulbs before shipping and guarantee the delivery of healthy and viable bulbs.
Bulb Preservation:
The bulb is sent in slightly moist sphagnum moss, and you can keep it as is at room temperature (15-20°C). Even if it starts to sprout a little, it is not a problem, as it can remain in this state for several weeks. Alternatively, you can place it directly in your aquarium, which should encourage it to sprout quickly if the water is sufficiently warm.
Habitat and Description:
Barclaya longifolia is a relative of Nymphaea (part of the Nymphaeaceae family) and is found in moderate to fast-flowing rivers in Southeast Asia. Its elongated leaves are generally green on the top and purple underneath. This species is occasionally available on specialized aquarium websites and is considered moderately difficult to cultivate. The main challenge is keeping it in active growth, as changes in its cultivation conditions may cause it to enter dormancy, sometimes taking several months to reappear. Some populations have entirely red foliage. It is the easiest species in the Barclaya genus, with the others being much more challenging to grow.
The last two photos show its natural habitat: a shallow, semi-shaded, fast-flowing river.
Cultivation:
Suitable for aquariums (or outdoors during summer). pH between 6 and 8, ideal temperature 25-27°C. It can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures, though growth will slow down. Above 28°C, the plant tends to enter dormancy. Good lighting is essential, and it tolerates water currents well.
Hardiness:
