Item description : Drynaria rigidula mounted on a wooden plank. The plant for sale is the plant on pictures.
Habitat and Description : A beautiful fern from South East Asia. It growson trees and makes different types of fronds: the “shields”that have the same function as those found on Platycerium, to trap organic matter for fertilization (like dead leaves) and the fertile fronds that provide both reproduction and photosynthesis. As they have a similar growth pattern as Platycerium, they can be grown in a similar fashin, in pots or on a board.
Care : Easy to grow but prefers acidic water, if your water is too alkaline it’s better to bath your plant in rainwater or distilled water. The key to success with these epiphytic fern lies in the use of soft water, a sequence of wet/dry soil and temperatures between 20 and 29°C (but they also tolerate warmer and colder temperatures)
Cold hardiness : Purely tropical species.
