Habitat and Description : A beautiful Erythrina from South Africa. It makes a large caudex mostly underground giving it its nickname of Ploughbreaker. Every year the aerial parts die and grow back in spring. Beautiful red flowers.
Care : Easy to grow, like heat. Draining soil preferred, watch for excess of water during winter as this species comes from seasonally dry area.
Cold hardiness : Given for zone 8a with the caudex burried. If the caudex is exposed to frost it’s very likely that cold hardiness will be greatly reduced.
