Species : Platycerium superbum, Elkhorn fern
Item description : One beautiful specimen of Platycerium superbum, around 15cm in diameter and 25-30cm tall (bottle on the picture is 1,5liters). You get one plant similar to the pictured one.
Habitat and Description : Epiphytic fern from Australia that can get huge. They’re found on trees in half shade to full sun. It makes two kinds of fronds : the « shields » for photosynthesis and rhizome protection and « fertile » fronds for reproduction.
Care : Easy to grow but prefers acidic water, if your water is too alkaline it’s better to bath your plant in rainwater or distilled water. When the plant is well acclimated, you can put it in half shade or full sun. This species can tolerate drought to some extent but needs plenty of water during the growing season.
WARNING : These plantes were cultivated in a greenhouse under half shade, do not put them directly in full sun otherwise the leaves will burn !
Cold hardiness : Moderately cold hardy (-2°C) for short periods.
