Item description :One seedling of Cycas revoluta x sexseminifera, a very rare hybrid and since I only have a few, I limit the sale to 1 per customer. You receive a plant similar to the pictured ones. The last pictures show the two parents: Cycas sexseminifera (male) and Cycas revoluta (female)
Habitat and Description : A very promising hybrid obtained by crossing Cycas revoluta and Cycas sexseminifera. The stron sexseminifera influence can already be seen on the seedlings that have wide leaflets and a glaucous hue in dry conditions. A cold hardiness of around -6°C for the leaves can be expected, combined with a fast growth. Cycas sexseminifera being a dwarf and compact species, the hybrid should also be quite compact. It seems this hybrid was made for the first time by Stan Walkley from Plantation 2000 in Australia and according to him, this hybrid has excellent ornamental qualities;
The 2021 pollination gave below average results for this cross, so I will try it agin this year. If the results are better, I’ll lower the prices down.
Care : Fast growing hybrid, can be grown in full sun or shade. Likes well draining soil but needs a lot of water in summer, especially if grown in full sun.
Cold hardiness : Hardy to zone 8b maybe even colder. More trials need to be made to determine this hybrid’s limits.
