Species : Araucaria cunninghamii ssp cunninghamii
Item description : 1 Young Araucaria cunninghamii ssp cunninghamii , 15-20cm tall (without pot) in a 1,4 liters pot. You receive a plant similar to the ones on pictures and is the true species (sometimes you’ll find columnaris or heterophylla under this name). The last pictures show an immature tree to have an idea of how it looks.
Habitat and Description : An australian species that reaches impressive dimensions. It’s a slow growing tree but it’s supposed to be more cold hardy than columnaris and heterophylla. The plants for sale have not been trimmed like Bonsaï such as the ones you can sometimes find in garden center. They’ll develop a straight trunk and a natural shape.
Care : Easy to grow, keep the growing medium humid. Prefers acidic soils but can tolerate a large variety of soils.
Cold hardiness : Given for zone 9a (-6,6°C for a short time with positive temperatures during the day), hardier than heterophylla and columnaris that are given for zone 9b minimum. This Araucaria is still very rarely cultivated in Europe so it needs to be tested to know its real hardines.
(Disclaimer : Cold hardiness varies from one place to another and also depends of the size and origin of the plant)
